Why Docker matters in modern software delivery

Docker has become the default for packaging and deploying software because it solves one of the most common sources of bugs in production: environment drift. When code runs inside a container, the operating system, libraries, dependencies, and runtime configuration travel with it. What runs on a developer’s laptop runs identically in CI, in staging, and in production.
